Mobile App Demo Day: A MAD Success

mad-scientistSeveral weeks ago, I intro-ed DAXKO’s first ever mobile app development competition to the DAXKO Nation community.  Since that time, 4 teams (Sleepless Knights, Team Fig, Tony & Harsha, and the .NET Jedis) have poured their hearts into developing the next mobile app megastar.  Aside from the pending fame, the 10 G’s up for grabs in prize money was probably a motivating factor – don’t you think?

Yesterday was demo day… the day all teams opened the vest to show their cards and throw their apps up on the big screen.  All of DAXKO was encouraged to attend the demos then vote for their fave app, taking into account the following:

  • How applicable is the app to one or both of DAXKO’s major markets?
  • What is the perceived quality of the application?
  • How innovative is the idea?
  • Does it have the opportunity to generate revenue either directly or indirectly?
  • Does the app look good and/or how usable is it?
  • How likely is it that you’d download the app?
  • Does it look like the app would be worth further investment from DAXKO in order to take it to market?
  • How close to completion does it appear to be?

Let me assure you… it was no easy choice deciding where to cast my vote.  All the apps brought something unique and valuable to the table.  Major props to all the teams!

Now comes ballot counting and deliberation to determine the first place winner and “People’s Choice” winner.  Top apps will be unveiled at DAXKO Labs at the YMCA’s General Assembly Conference in Salt Lake City in early July.  So stay tuned…
